LUKEWARM CATHOLICS

(Q): What is a lukewarm Catholic?
(A):
Lukewarm Catholics are those who attend church out of habit and generally do not pray unless something life threatening happens. The danger with this type of Catholic is that they are easily swayed into other religions and they often disobeys the teachings of the Catholic Church. Why? Because the Cafeteria Catholic does not know what the Catholic church teaches!

Some examples of a lukewarm Catholic:

  • They do not know what they believe
  • They do not know that Jesus is present in the Eucharist (See Eucharist)
  • They do not know why or what the Feast days are about (such as the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and the Feast of the Annunciation)
  • They go to church out of habit and really don't know why
  • They do not know that if they commit a mortal sin that they must go to confession before going to communion
  • They do not see a problem in missing mass, sometimes they only go to mass for Christmas or Easter (see Skipping Mass)
  • They are helpless when confronted by a Bible quoting Protestant and really don't seem to care.
  • They use artificial birth control
  • They use the means of sterilization to prevent pregnancies
  • They never stick up for their faith when confronted by other religions
  • They promote the death penalty and do not pray or think about the soul of the convicted.
  • They see no problem in sleeping with the opposite sex out of wedlock
  • They see no problem in supporting abortion or having an abortion.
(Q): What is God's opinion about those who are lukewarm?
(A):
Rev 3:15 "I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were cold or hot! (16) So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth."

(Q): How can I find God in my life?
(A):
Prayer! It is very hard for a lukewarm Catholic to become excited by the thought of praying. If you truly want to find God in your life click on How to Find God.

(Q): What can be done to inspire a lukewarm Catholic?
(A):
All that is needed is a motivated faithful Catholic that is willing to share and explain the Catholic faith. If we are in love and on fire for our faith it cannot help but be contagious. A good example of someone who is bringing thousands of lukewarm and fallen away Catholics back to the church is Professor Scott Hahn. Scott Hahn was a former Protestant pastor who was very anti-Catholic. After being challenged by a former Catholic in one of his classes as a Protestant seminary, Scott began to ask questions and seek answers to questions that were bothering him. His search guided him and his wife Kimberly into the Catholic church. Scott is currently a Professor at Stuebenville University.
