PROTESTANTIZED CATHOLICS

(Q): So, what is a Protestantized Catholic?
(A):
A Protestantized Catholic is any person who claims to be Catholic who incorporates Protestant beliefs and ideas into the Catholic Church. The Protestantized Catholic receives their information on the Catholic Church, not from the Church itself, but from Protestant sources.
A Protestantized Catholic is a baptized Catholic with little or no formal Catholic education. Many Catholics only attend CCD classes until they are confirmed then assume they are "finished" with their religious education. Since the central act of worship for Catholics is the Mass and only about 15 minutes is spent on the homily, many Catholics are ill informed concerning their faith. So when they listen to non-Catholic evangelists on the radio, TV, or elsewhere they may be influenced in ways contrary to Catholic teaching. There are more Protestant Catholic evangelists on TV and radio than there are Catholics. Catholics are more exposed to the Protestant viewpoint. There are also Protestants who are very critical of Catholic teachings and an uninformed Catholic could become influenced by their suggestions, especially if the Catholic does not know his or her faith.

(Q): What are some examples of Protestantized Catholics?
(A):
Read below what Protestantized Catholic learn and incorporate into the Catholic faith...
  • They learn that the sacrament of confession is wrong and that all people should confess their sins straight to God--not to a priest (see Confession)
  • They learn that it is wrong to ask for intercessory prayers from the communion of saints or Mary
  • They learn that attending Mass every week is not mandatory (see Skipping Mass)
  • They learn that Communion is just a wafer, nothing more and it is ok to receive Communion if we have committed a mortal sin without going to confession (see Communion, see Sins)
  • They learn that it is ok for woman to be priests (see Female Priests)
  • They learn that the Bible is all that is needed and the teachings of the Church are to be ignored
  • They attend Protestant Bible studies
  • They learn that Priests should be permitted to marry (see Married Priests)
  • They learn that all religions are alike

(Q): How can a Catholic learn more about his or her faith?
(A):
A good place to start is with the RCIA (The Rite of Christian Initiation) program. The RCIA is for converts and any Catholic who wants to start over and learn the faith. Many Dioceses offer adult religious education courses. Reading Catholic newspapers and periodicals is also a good source of information.
